PSN Europe Down Yet Again!

PSNIm

***Update 20/11/2011 15:38 – Appears to be back up and running now***

So PSN is randomly down again (at least in Europe anyway) and already people have started to worry that it’s the work of those dastardly hackers again (why don’t they just get a life – or a girlfriend!). Still there’s no reason to assume the worst as yet.

Most likely the maintenance that occurred on the 16/17th November has caused some problems that they’ve realised they have to go in and fix. Still, I’ve had to be a virtual Columbo to even find any info about this – you’d think Sony would have learnt their lesson about keeping customers informed by now wouldn’t you? Apparently not.

HTC EVO 3D – OTA Update And 3D Games Galore

This is the promised (and much delayed) video of the recent OTA update from HTC, for European unbranded HTC EVO 3D’s. The OTA update installs 3 3D games; “Ultimate Spider-Man Total Mayhem 3D,” “Need For Speed, Shift 3D” and “The Sims 3D”  – and apparently also includes an important security update. I originally blogged about this update here: http://goo.gl/zAyMl.

Chances are that by now most EVO 3D owners already have this update (or found it was already installed on recently purchased EVO 3D’s), but just in case anyone hasn’t received the update or is considering buying this phone and wants to see what 3D content is available for it – I thought I would still post this vid. πŸ™‚

HTC EVO 3D Display – Are 3D Phones Dimmer?

Hi all. This video should really be in two parts. First off I’ll be looking at whether or not there is a trade off in brightness with 3D screens. After that I’ll be answering a viewers query and showing you how you can install the “Amazing Sense” skin that you see here on my phone. This is directly in answer to a query from”Ghostsnoopy3.” You can find the link to the XDA page where you can download the “Amazing Sense” skin at the bottom of this text.

In the first part of the video I hope viewers can help me out with something – in my unboxing vid of the HTC EVO 3D the first thing I noticed was that the screen seemed a little dimmer to me than on my HTC Sensation. This is a bit of a worry as the 2 phones have exactly the same display screen specs.

Of course I was thinking that it could be just my imagination – or that it could be due to the 3D technology. However I haven’t been able to find anything that confirms that 3D screens are dimmer. So take a look and see if you can notice the difference in displays – let me know if you think this is an issue – and if you do know anything regarding discrepancies with 3D screens of this type I’d be grateful if you could let me know.

Thanks.

Gadgemeister.

HTC EVO 3D/Android – All Your Battery Questions Answered

*****I’ve had real technical problems lately with editing and uploading videos – so apologies for promising lots of EVO vids and not delivering.*****

I’ve been wanting to do a video on mobile phone battery life issues for some time. I think the biggest drawback with some of the best and highest spec smartphones is that you can’t be sure it’s gonna even get you through a full days usage.

This can end up with your phone going kaput on you (probably when you most need it), or on you having to use your phone’s settings to limit what it will do (and what you can do with it) – thereby reducing it’s power consumption (but also severely limiting its performance), until you can reach somewhere that you can charge it. This is not really acceptable is it?! What’s the point in paying Β£500 for a phone that can do everything – if you have to then limit what it can do half the time – just so it doesn’t die on you?!

Unfortunately this continues to be a problem due to phone makers current obsession with thin-ness (thanks iphone!)

So what solutions are there out there? Well, I was surprised to find that there are plenty of  inexpensive solutions to the problem – but none of them come without compromise.

We shouldn’t have to make such compromises –

A plea – MOBILE PHONE MAKERS, PLEASE JUST MAKE PHONES CONTAINING BATTERIES THAT WILL BE PRETTY SURE OF GETTING EVEN HEAVY USERS COMFORTABLY THROUGH THE WHOLE DAY!!!!!

I mean seriously, it’s not too much to ask is it? Cue video:

HTC EVO 3D Unboxing Part 2 – First Impressions

This is the rest of the unboxing video that I was able to salvage after having technical problems. Apologies for the lack of in depth review in this video. More vids featuring the HTC EVO 3D will follow from tomorrow.

HTC EVO 3D Unboxing (Sim Free, Unbranded, Unlocked)

Apologies all, for delays in posting this vid. However I can promise that follow-up vids will be coming thick and fast as there is plenty to look at and comment about with this phone. This vid will totally just be the actual unboxing, but the next vid will post today or tomorrow, and I will try to post more on this phone every day or 2 for a while after that.

Verdict so far – it’s a great and impressive phone – but is perhaps let down just a little bit in some important respects. The 3D is VERY impressive but there’s probably not a great deal of use for it as yet, apart from perhaps 3D gaming (I’m not that much of a gamer but I’d definitely like to try 3D games on this). Is 3D a gimmick? Maybe, but a fun one – and definitely something to impress curious friends with. I’m also a little annoyed by the lack of 3D content out there. There are plenty of YouTube videos (which are great), but I can’t find any of the 3D games that are available in the States.

*****If anyone can tell me where I can find some, or other 3D content I’d be very grateful for any tips*****

*****Update 23/08/2011, 14:03 UK time: News on the lack of 3D games available: this French site:http://bit.ly/mXcIQL claims that HTC are about to address this issue with an update that will add these 3 games to your HTC EVO 3D; ‘The Sims 3’ (or should that be ‘Sims 3D’), ‘Spider-Man Total Mayhem,’ and ‘Need For Speed.’ Let’s hope they’re right about this (not been able to find it elsewhere – but this site is uber-reliable for breaking HTC news). And let’s hope that HTC get this out REAL soon.*****
